Aperture Card and the Polkadoodles Design Team

Hello Crafters! How are you? I have some news that I’m excited to share with you today – I was accepted to be a part of the Polkadoodles Design Team!! If you’re not familiar with Polkadoodles, they’re a craft company from the UK that create a variety of craft products, mostly with quite a whimsical style. They ship all over the world and also do a lot of very reasonably priced digital products. The reason that I applied for their design team is that their products are of great quality, reasonably priced, and have really fun imagery. So, this is my first project for them – an aperture card created with the Gnome for Spring SVG files.

Polkadoodles Gnome for Spring SVG

I actually only used the accessories in the SVG file for this card! There are a couple of sentiments, and, of course, the gnome, that I didn’t even touch! But if you don’t have a digital cutting machine (such as the Silhouette, Cricut, or Brother Scan & Cut), you may be thinking “what is an SVG file?” or “I can’t make this, I don’t have a digital cutting machine”.

An SVG file is just a file that a digital cutting machine uses to know what it needs to cut and where. The ones that I’ve used for this card are “print and cut” SVGs, meaning that you can print them and then have your digital cutting machine cut them for you. However, if you don’t have a digital cutting machine, you can download free cutting machine software (you can find the Silhouette software HERE), open the file through the software as you would anything else on your computer, then you can print it from there and cut it by hand. This will obviously take a bit longer, but the shapes are simple and it’s a nice workaround if you don’t have one of these machines.

Top Tip: If you have a digital cutting machine and are going to print and cut these images with your machine, change the cut lines to be invisible before you print the images, then you won’t get the red cut line around the outside.
