Chocolate Box To Beautiful Gift Box – Upcycling with Die-Cuts!

Hello Crafters! How are you? Today I’m sharing the second part of the final chellenge for level 2 of my Altenew Educator Programme! For this part I had to create an Altered Item/Upcycled Project. I’ve had the gorgeous Hotel Chocolat boxes pictured below for AGES as I’ve wanted to do something with them. They’re a lovely quality and just so beautifully sparkly, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to update them with a little upcycling. I wanted to create a gift box that someone might want to save as a keepsake box, so I wanted to cover over the branding and create something that looked quite boutiquey and special.

My aim was to create something that really popped against the black of the box. I love the Himalayan Blue Poppy Dies that Altenew released this month, but wanted to use them in pinks to really stand out! I decided to draw on the Impressive Heat Embossing class from level 2 of my course, and heat emboss the petals with Translucent Pearl Embossing Powder and the flower centres with gold embossing powder. This gave them some texture and shine, and also made them more sturdy so that they’ll last longer if someone wants to use this as a pretty keep-sake box. I’ve added a picture below of the finished box and a close-up of the flowers. Aren’t they pretty?!

If you’d like to see the post where I showed more of this release and created a card with these Himalayan Blue Poppy dies you can see that HERE

You can check out the video tutorial for upcycling this box and creating those gorgeous flowers below, or you can scroll further if you’d like to see the supply list.

  • Sometimes the simplest revamping is the way to go! Bravo! You have created four excellent cards and a beautiful box! I love the colours you chose for the die-cuts. Well done!!

    • Thanks Erum! Yes, I wanted to keep it simple because I love the sparkle of the box, so I wanted to make it more beautiful rather than covering it up too much!
