Fable Friends Window Birthday Card

Good Morning Crafters!! I’m back this morning with another card that uses that cute little rabbit from the Fabled Friends. It’s a gorgeous window card so the bunny’s actually on the inside of the card.

My son is 1 this month (I can’t believe the time has gone that quicky!!), which means that all of his friends that were born at the same time are also turning 1, so I’ll be making a lot of baby birthday cards over the next few weeks!!

I really love how the Stitched Lace die works so well with this kids’ card, but also really adds a luxury feel to the Magnolia tag for adults that I made last week.

Tutorial – Fable Friends Birthday Card

To create the card blank, score and fold an A6 piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock in half. Cut a piece of Petal Pink cardstock and a piece of Whisper White, each 1/4″ smaller than the card front, then cut another piece of Whisper White cardstock 1/4″ smaller than these pieces.

To create the window for your card, use washi tape to hold your petal pink layer and the smaller Whisper White layer in place on your card front, then add the layering oval die that fits best around the rabbit from the Fabled Friends stamp set on top, where you want the window to be. Run this through your die-cutting machine. The die isn’t quite deep enough to get through all 3 layers, but it will leave an impression in the bottom layer, so you can just slot the die back into the impression and run it through your machine again to cut through the final layer.

Once your window’s cut, run your white layer with the window through your die-cutting machine using the Stitched Lace die. I’ve included the brush head from the Take Your Pick tool in the product list because this is really useful for getting all of the tiny pieces out of your die and your die cut piece with a delicate die like this – it makes the whole process A LOT quicker!!

Position your larger (un-die-cut) Whisper White layer inside your card, then trace through the front window with a pencil so that you know which part of the inside will show through to the front of your card. Stamp your rabbit in Gray Granite ink into the oval that you’ve traced, then rub the pencil line out. The reason that it’s best to use an extra piece of cardstock, rather than stamping directly onto the card, is so that when you colour with the blends you can’t see the colour on the back of your finished card.

Colour your rabbit with Stampin’ Blends. I used the Dark and Light Crumb Cake, Petal Pink and the Ivory for the rabbit, and the Balmy Blue combo for his jacket. I then coloured around his feet with the Light Gray Granite to ground him. Stick your insert inside your card, then stick the Petal Pink and Lacey Whisper White layers to the front of your card.

To create the frame for the window on the front of your card, die cut the Scalloped Oval Die that fits around the window in your card in Petal Pink cardstock, and then use the same oval die that you used to cut out your window to cut an aperture in the centre. Stick this scalloped frame around the window in your card.

For the sentiment, heat emboss the Happy Birthday greeting from the Special Celebrations stamp set with White Embossing powder onto Petal Pink cardstock. Cut it out using the appropriately sized Stitched Rectangle Framelit die and then add it to your card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
