Hippo Happiness Kids Handmade Birthday Card

Hello Crafters! How are you today? How cute are the little animals on this card? They are from the Hippo Happiness bundle from Stampin’ Up (the bundle includes the stamp set and the die set and by buying it as a bundle you save 10% versus buying the individual items separately). The creatures are made up of 3-step stamping, so there’s no colouring involved (there’s even a little face for the butterfly but I chose not to use it on this card). And the dies not only cut out the animals, but also include 3 different sets of layering shapes.

Tutorial – Hippo Happiness Kids’ Handmade Birthday Card

To create your card blank, score and fold a 5″ x 10″ piece of Basic Gray cardstock in half. Then, cut a 4 1/2″ square piece of Balmy Blue cardstock and a 4 1/4″ piece of Basic Gray cardstock and glue them together before adding them to your card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals (foam pads).

To create your topper, cut out a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock and a piece of Shaded Spruce cardstock using the largest of the stitched shapes from your Hippo Happiness bundle. Then, use the largest of the shapes that don’t have the stitching detail to cut the bottom off the Shaded Spruce one, creating a hill shape. Glue this onto the Balmy Blue one to create a background.

On a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock stamp a hippo (use Blushing Bride for the base layer, Flirty Flamingo for the top layer and Memento Black ink for the face), a ewe (use Smoky Slate for the base layer and Memento Black ink for the top layer and the face), and a butterfly (use Bumblebee for the base layer and Pretty Peacock for the top layer. Then cut them all out using the coordinating dies.

Add a butterfly trail to your background, just below where you want the butterfly to go, using Basic Gray ink, then add all of the animals with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To complete your card, stamp your sentiment in black memento ink onto a scrap of Balmy Blue cardstock, then trim around it and add it to your card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
