I Bet You’ve Never Used Stencils Like THIS!

Hello! How are you? Today I’m coming to you on a different day than usual to share some cards I created in collaboration with Emily Moore Designs using some fun stenciling techniques. I’m using her gorgeous Rainbow Stencils for the techniques, but you can, of course, use any of the stencils from your stash. Glitter Hi Card

The first card that I created combines masked off edges, which frame the stencilled panel, and Glitter Paste for a textured shine that really adds a wow factor!! The Emily Moore Designs stencils are perfect for this technique as they are really good quality, meaning that the stencil isn’t too flimsy and is a great depth for holding the dimension of the glitter paste.

Top Tips:

1. Take the masking tape off before the glitter paste dries for a smooth edge
2. Wash your palette knife and stencil as soon as you’ve finished using them for an easy clean.
3. Use a grid mat under your card to ensure your masking tape is applied in a straight line.

Rainbow Shaker Card

For this card I applied Distress Oxide inks in shades of purple to pale purple cardstock for a tone-on-tone look. I then used Emily’s Shaker Doily Die to cut it into a shaker front for my card. She sells pre-cut acetate pieces that are the perfect size for the back of the shaker die so you can make this card in minutes.

Top Tips:

1. If you’re using beads of any type in your shaker window, make sure they don’t come higher than the depth of your shaker foam. Or, for bigger beads, double up your foam.
2. Don’t always stencil onto white cardstock – light coloured cardstocks add interest to a card and take coloured inks, especially Distress Oxide inks, well.

Hello Rainbow Card

For the final card I created today, I embossed the middle layer of the rainbow in my die-cutting machine (be sure to check out the video if you’ve not done this before – it’s a great technique for adding dimension!) and then heat embossed the top layer with gold embossing powder. This is one of my favourite techniques for using stencils; the dimension and shine that it gives really makes a statement on your card.

Top Tip:

1. The embossing powder technique works best if you apply the embossing ink through the stencil using embossing ink refil – this allows you to get a thicker coverage than applying it from the ink pad.
2. Adding a statement sentiment really finished off the card – the Hi, Hey, Hello dies that I’ve used for today’s cards are the larger size that Emily has – they are the perfect size for these cards where you want to add a statement without covering the whole background.
