Checked Prized Peony Handmade Birthday Card

Hello Crafters! How are you today? Are you loving this Prized Peony bundle as much as I am? For today’s card I’ve paired it with the Best Year bundle. If you read my blog posts regularly, you’ll probably have noticed that I LOVE the Happy Birthday sentiment that I’ve used on this card – it’s a great size and a lovely font and I’ve used it LOADS, but you might not realise that if you buy the bundle that it’s a part of, you also get the gorgeous Plaid dies that I’ve used in the background of this card. Aren’t they gorgeous? And so versatile – I’ll definitely be using them with Christmassy colours for my Christmas cards this year!

Tutorial – Prized Peony Handmade card with checked die-cut background

Create a Basic Gray card blank by scoring and folding an A5 (half of an A4) piece of cardstock in half.

Die-cut the denser plain die in Petal Pink, and the other one in Smoky Slate, then cut them down to 1/4″ smaller than the card front. Stick the Petal Pink one to the card front first, then add the Smoky Slate one on top.

Stamp the large peony from the Prized Peony stamp set in Basic Gray ink onto Whisper White cardstock. Colour it with Smoky Slate and Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends, then cut it out using the coordinating die.

Heat emboss the Happy Birthday sentiment in White embossing powder on a scrap of Basic Gray cardstock [not sure how to heat emboss? Watch my tutorial here], then cut it out using a stitched rectangle die.

Use a large stitched rectangle die to cut out another piece of Basic Gray cardstock, then lay it sideways across the front of the card. Stick it on, then trim off the overhanging sides.

Add the peony and the sentiment to the front of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals (foam pads), then finish by adding some Petal Pink faceted gems.
