Sketch Sunday – Handmade Succulent Birthday Card

Good Afternoon Crafters! I hope it’s a sunny one where you are! It’s a lovely day here so I’m writing this blog post in the garden 🙂 It’s a fitting post as all of our flowers have finally come out so I’m enjoying them while sharing this lovely floral card with you (well, technically succulent, but nevermind!). My succulent Birthday card today uses the lovely Succulent dies which I use a lot! Hurry to get a bargain on yours though – they are currently only £18.00 but they are on low inventory, and once they’re gone they’re gone, so if you love these as much as I do please be quick so you don’t miss out!! It also uses the coordinating Succulent Garden DSP – also reduced to only £7.00!

So if you read my blog a lot, you’ll know that on a Sunday I share a card for my “Sketch Sunday” feature. This is where I take a sketch template (usually found on Pinterest) and create a Stampin’ Up card using it. I do this because I think that if you’re new to crafting, or lacking a little creative mojo one day, using someone else’s layout and just adding your own creativity is a great place to start. So today the card I’m sharing uses this layout from MFT (you can find loads more sketches on my Pinterest Board if you want to have a go at some more sketches yourself!)

Tutorial

To make this card, you need to start with an A5 piece of Thick Whisper White card stock, scored down the middle and folded in half. Then, cut a piece of Succulent Garden DSP to 1/4″ smaller than your card front each way. Cut another piece of Whisper White to 4″ x 2″ and stamp the Stylized Birthday “Happy Birthday” sentiment into the middle in Old Olive ink. Cut a piece of Old Olive Cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 2 1/4″ and adhere your sentiment on top of it. Stick this onto your card front. Cut a strip of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock the same width as your DSP and stick this along the bottom of your sentiment.

To create the flower. take the smallest of the 3 big flower dies from your Succlent Framelits and cut two from Sweet Sugarplum Cardstock using your Bigshot machine. Use a sponge dauber to ink the edges with Sweet Sugarplum ink. Curl up the petals using your fingers or the curved edge of a pencil or pokey tool, and stick the two together with a Stampin’ Dimensional, offsetting one on top of the other. Use a Metal Rimmed Pearl to create the flower centre, and attach it to your card using sticky dots.

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s Sketch Sunday Succulent Birthday Card. If you want to purchase any of the products used to make it, please use the below links to shop in the online shop.

Have a great day!
