Good Morning Crafters! How are you today? Have you ever used embossing paste? My aim today is to show that embossing paste isn’t just for mixed media crafters. In fact, I’d argue that this technique may be the simplest way of creating your own patterned paper!! And you can always mix a little of the embossing paste with some re-inker ink to create your own colours so that the range of colour combinations is endless!
The only things you need in order to do this technique are a stencil, some embossing paste, a palette knife and some cardstock. Today I’ve combined my home-made background with the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set to create this striking card.

Tutorial – Embossing Paste Background Thank You Card with Celebrate Sunflowers
To create your card base, score and fold an A5 (8 1/4″ x 5 7/8″) piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock in half. Then, cut a piece of Gold Foil cardstock 1/4″ smaller, and a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock 1/8″ smaller than that.
Place your stencil over the layer of Mossy Meadow cardstock (at this point you could tape the stencil to your work surface if you’re worried about it slipping). Then, use your palette knife to take some embossing paste and spread it, just like you spread butter on toast, over the stencil. Remove any extra embossing paste and add it back into your pot. Then, lift your stencil and set your embossed cardstock aside to dry.
Stamp your sunflower 3 times in black ink onto Whisper White cardstock. Colour them with blends, then use your scissors to cut them out, leaving a small white border around one of the sunflowers, then cutting the outer petals off one of the flowers, and just leaving the inner petals on the third. Layer them up using Stampin’ Dimensionals (foam pads), with the largest flower on the bottom and the smallest on the top. [I show this process at 9:51 in this SUNFLOWER BOX VIDEO TUTORIAL if you would like to see a video of how to create it].
Heat emboss your sentiment in white on a strip of Mossy Meadow cardstock, then cut a strip of Gold Foil sheet 1/8″ wider. Glue your sentiment onto the the Gold Foil strip. [Not sure how to heat emboss? You can see my video tutorial HERE]
Glue the layers of your card together, then add your sentiment strip across it and the sunflower to the side (My sunflower had a bit of overhang so I just trimmed the sides off the overhanging petals in line with the card.
