Good Morning Crafters! How are you? I can’t believe how quickly Christmas is coming around! We had a really Christmassy weekend last weekend; we went to a Christmas market, put up our tree, and went to see the lights at Blenheim Palace. Brendan (my partner) and I also had a little Christmas house making competition! He doesn’t usually craft so I loved sharing this with him. He made the red one and I made the brick one. I was really pleased with how they came out and they look really cute with the little LED tea lights in! They were so fun to make that I think I may take this bundle back for Christmas and make some with my sister’s kids. I think it would be awesome to put some ribbon through the roofs and hang them on the tree!
Tutorial – Home Sweet Home – The Little Red House
Cut two of the house shapes out of Real Red cardstock. Then, put the house back through your Bigshot with the door and windows where you want them to go – tape down the dies or use a magnetic platform to ensure they don’t slip from where you want them. Cut window frames for your windows, a door frame for your door, and a scalloped piece for the roof from Whisper White cardstock. Stick the window and door frames to the house.
Next, stamp the candy cane stripe line twice in Garden Green ink and cut them out.
Fold on each of the score lines and put together using the instructions inside the packaging leaflet, but don’t secure the flaps on the back of your house with glue, just tuck them in like you would the lid of a box. This will allow you to open and close the back of your house to get your LED candle out. As you stick the roof together at the top, stick your scalloped edge into the gap between the two sides.
To finish your house, stick the Garden Green candy cane strips that you cut out along the edge of the roof at the front of the house, and cut a little circle from Whisper White cardstock using the jelly drop die and add as a door knob.
Tutorial – Home Sweet Home – The Brick House
Cut two house shapes from Crumb Cake cardstock, then add the door and windows as per the red house. Before you stick on the window and door frames, add the brickwork. To do this, mix a little Crumb Cake re-inker with some embossing paste. Then, lay the brick pattern stencil over your house shapes and use a spatula to spread your embossing paste over the top (as though you’re buttering toast). Peel the stencil off carefully and leave your brickwork to dry. Add your door and window frames on and assemble the house as per the little red house.
To decorate the roof, cut 8 scalloped roof pieces, and lay 4 on each side of the roof, offsetting the scallops and trimming the edges in line with the roof edge. Stamp and cut 22 little jelly drops for the roof using Real Red ink. The stamp and die does 3 jelly drops at a time which makes this process a lot quicker. Stick the jelly drops onto the join between each of the scallops using mini glue dots.
To complete your house, unwind one of your wreaths and stick this along the edge of your roof, and add a metal trim pearl to the door as a door knob.
